Came across this article discussing retail trends of 2011, and item #3 stated:

3. Breaking the 80/20 Rule The future of retailing is selling less of more. With expanded access, consumers will buy less of what’s “popular” and more of what “suits me.” Retailers that can figure out how to deliver what niche markets are looking for will reap the profits.

So does that mean 'trends' as we know it will dry up and vanish? Will the more eclectic/niche stores (possibly pop-ups) see an increase? Would this be geared more towards clothing or will it branch towards electronics and gaming as well? I'm curious to what others would think.

Seems to be the age old retail delima - specialize or wide variety of merchandise assorments. Would 31 flavors be the same with only Choc., Vanilla & Strawberry?
